It took less than ONE WEEK for my fridge (previously documented here) to break down after I publicly praised my loyal appliances. I seem to have a very clear channel of communication with the Evil Eye. I am now on sort of a camping trip in my own home, using my picnic cooler as a temporary fridge while the repair man orders a replacement motor.
There are some who would replace the entire fridge, but I decided to postpone that trauma and extra expense. I'm also afraid they won't be able to get the fridge out of my apt., because it was hoisted in by crane. The Amana fridge has "American proportions," which are shorter and wider than local fridges, just like American letter-size paper is shorter and wider than A4. My building has no elevator, and the crane was there to move the piano in, so the movers took advantage of it for a couple of other large/heavy items.
I'm probably one of the few people wishing for cold weather this week, at least on my balcony. You're invited right away to help me consume the perishables!
*UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE - Amnon fixed the Amana! He installed the new motor this morning (Sunday, Jan 22), and ice cubes are now available chez Dotty. But not much else...must make a grocery run tomorrow.

Done!
Sad news about the frig.
In Pennsylvania in the winter we use our attached garages as "extra" refridgerators. You need it at XMAS and such.
You forgot to say "tfu tfu tfu" while praising it :-)
TLP -What I need is some Pennsylvania weather, right now.
Udge - But it did say it! In the third paragraph. Maybe that's the problem: I should have said it in the title. (I'm glad you're aware of the importance of this incantation.)
Hi savtadotty (and what may I call you for short?!), Thanks for your comments and I skipped on over to your blog and then, who could stop??? Great stuff and I look forward to hanging with another dotty one!
Welcome Lin! Us dotty grandmothers gotta stick together! You can call me Dot if savtadotty is too many keystrokes :-)
What kind of cheese is that? I'm a sucker for cheese.
Actually PA is not having a normal winter this year. Today it's getting close to 60 in my area.
Hoss - I think what you see is butter (Lurpak, Danish) and margarine (Tnuva, Israeli). They come in 200-gram packages (about 7 oz.). The cheese, which I don't think is visible in the photo, is Israeli goat cheese. We have a lot of goats here, and the variety and quality of goat cheeses is superb. The good cow's milk cheeses are imported and very expensive, and the French ones are not as good as in France where they don't have to be pasteurized and taste better.
TLP - Well then I suppose I could wish for Moscow weather, but from what I'm reading that would be too much of a good thing.
Am I too late to have anything? It looks good in that cooler.
Fred - The cooler is now empty. But the fridge is filling up nicely.
