Fruit Question

Why do I get sleepy after eating fruit?

  • Hmm, maybe there's something wrong with you. Fruit always wakes me up, especially oranges.

  • 'Cause you eat it at midnight?

  • i think you're just crashing after the short-lived sugar high you get from the fruit.

  • I get sleepy eating ANYTHING. I can't even blame it on old age, I've been like this for years. Maybe you're like me ;) I mean abnormal...

  • What lin said. I have the same problem with Pepsi, despite the caffeine.

  • I agree with lin. Fructose infusion inspires insulin secretion, which brings down your blood sugar, which makes you sleepy.

Or, maybe you're just odd? In a good way, I mean.

  • I think Samirah is right; there is something wrong with me, and lin has guessed what it is. Bihari gives a scientific explanation, which Julie's experience confirms. Claude, all I can say is, I like to think I'm like you, even if I stay wakeful when I eat non-sweet foods! Thank you all. At least we can drink water together when/if we meet.
