A Birthday Card from Africa

Africa Birthday Card
Originally uploaded by savtadotty.
My best friend and her husband are just finishing a month's volunteering in Uganda with the Health Volunteers Organization. She is a social worker and her husband is an orthopedic surgeon. The e-mails have been amazing...I wish I could convince her to write a blog just about this trip.

Anyhow, I wrote that I envied her the sounds she was hearing...the drumming and the singing she described so beautifully. Here is the (early) birthday card my dear friend sent me. On the back she wrote that the drums are drumming "Happy Birthday to Yoooooooo," etc. The card makes me want to get up and dance.

Such an interesting card and story behind it from your friends. I can almost hear the music the figures in the card must be playing and it is joyful and filled with life and playfullness.

Dance on.

Chancy.

Savta,
That's the kind of travel I wish I'd been done. I can't say I couldn't have done it---lots of folks volunteer for the Peace corps after retirement. But I never considered it. It never crossed my mind. Now I wish it had!
Thanks for sharing the artwork. I've always liked native and folk art. This print was very dynamic and smile-provoking. I hope you can display it.
And yes, I think your friend most certainly should share her experiences with those of us who now must enjoy that kind of adventure vicariously!
Hope you're having a good week.

your blog's illustrations are a model for me--graphics, food, knitting. i'm hoping to get better with the pixels so images on my blog appear as i'd hoped!

question: how do you convince others to Guest Blog? recently, i was surprised that a writing friend demurred, partly, i think, because she is unfamiliar with the form. yours, naomi, www.alittleredhen.com

chancy - "joyful and filled with life and playfullness"...isn't that the way to deal with old age? Or any age, for that matter? I'm actually researching dance classes!

goldenlucyd - you are doing your own bit now by blogging...never mind what might have been.

naomi - I use flickr and it lets me post photos to my blog...not hard to do. As for guest bloggers, I never had any, so I don't know how to answer your question. I imagine my readers are busy writing their own blogs, and I've not had a reason to ask someone else to write on mine...yet.

Great insight Savtadotty, especially regarding old age.

thanks
