Don't be a Stranger!

I've had a site meter for quite some time, just out of curiosity. I blog mostly for myself and my family, and over the year-and-a-half since I started, for my commenters too, some of whom I've even gotten to know IRL. But I suddenly got self-conscious about these readers who never comment, and some of them repeatedly come back for more. Who are you, technology person in Poland? You people in Texas I'm sure I don't know, because I don't know anybody in Texas? And what about you down there in South Africa? Why are you reading and not commenting? Am I scary? Hateful? At least I can be sure it has nothing to do with bad breath.

Greetings from a small village in Suffolk, England.

Oh fugde it. I did an long replay and it wouldn't post.

I'm guilty of just lurking but I enjoy your blog very much.

I will comment even if it's just to say hi I'm here. Sometimes I have a problem knowing what to say when someone does and entry, so if my "Hi I came and visited" is ok I'll do it.
I love your blog and have it on my Bloglines feed so I know when you post an entry.

Thank you Vanda! Sometimes I just post a comment like this (o) to show I've visited and have nothing else to say. Someone proposed it on a blog I read, and I liked the idea, so I stole it.

I must confess that even though I lived in England for four months (over 40 years ago) and visited several times since, I confused Suffolk with Sussex! So I looked it up and realized the error of my ways.

Hi there, I visit more often than I comment, as most visitors to most blogs do, I guess ;) I too have a counter on my blog and see people from different parts of the world even go through several pages and never comment. But sometimes, you just enjoy reading and visiting and don't have much to say ;)

I often comment and your blog is recommended on the side bar of mine. I like the idea of Vanda just to say Hi when nothing else comes to mind.

I don't have a meter and have thought of getting one to see who has dropped in on mine. Now I am wondering if it will turn me a little paranoid.

Hi there from Houston, Texas! I came to your blog from your daughter in Booland.

We're gypsies at heart, so I admire your relocation and new life. Takes guts, you know?

Claude, Maria, Samirah, Chancy - I wasn't complaining about YOU! You guys are my loyal commenters, even if you don't have something to say every time I post. (Even I don't have something to say every time I post.) It's folks like free range family and cadillacman I was inviting to join the party. Welcome! Was that so hard? I am really amazed to see the photojournal of the free range family's trip from New Jersey to Texas. Now I do "know" somebody in Texas. And cadillacman, thanks for the compliment: Good News Israel is a great blog name.

I'm the random blip that shows up in Canada, Idaho, rural Oregon, Seattle, California (been on the road a lot lately, thank goodness for wi-fi). So if I'm screwing up the site meter, sorry.

Much affection,

Now I feel quite misunderstood - I was just curious to know who my "lurkers" were, and here you old buddies whom I've know for ages thought I was asking you to comment! Oh well, thanks for hanging in.

i confess to my lurker status. :-) i just found your blog through a comment you left over at woulda coulda shoulda. i am fascinated with people who move to different countries because i don't have the nerve.

Bonnie - Thanks for commenting. I don't think "nerve" is all it takes to move to another country, so don't put yourself down for staying put. Sometimes it's truly wise to remain within your comfort zone, and to marshall your forces for things to come.
